I Like It
It is a wonderful pan. I'm still figuring out how to properly season it.
The three holes are a unique identifier that allows a Smithey to stand in a crowd. Reach for it on the range!
We use 2-3 coats of pure grape seed oil to pre-season your Smithey with. Seasoning is applied by hand and there are no chemical coatings of any kind applied to your skillet.
Our standard size leather skillet sleeve is custom fit for your No. 10 skillet.

I do not know whether you understand this or not, but it appears that the manufacturing process may have been violated when these skillets were produced, and now they are being sold in this condition.
We previously owned a cast iron skillet as well, and rust never formed on it under the same conditions.
I purchased the Smithey Starter Set online and LOVE IT! The set includes the #10 skillet, matching lid and sleeve. I use it daily for everything from Eggs to Wagyu rib eyes and it heats perfectly.
Not properly Seasoned
We have used cast iron pans from Lodge and older pans we inherited or were given made by Wagner and Griswold and liked the smooth finish on the older pans. The Smithey skillet has a great finish, a smoothly polished cooking surface, like the older pans, and quickly conditions with little effort. it has a nice weight and balance and the two handles make it easier to hold and carry. It is a higher cost pan, but will definitely last a lifetime or more.
