CALIFORNIA AB 1200 DISCLOSURE

At Smithey, we craft cast iron and carbon steel cookware in the USA that stands the test of time - pieces we’re proud to use in our own kitchens and that are designed to be modern heirlooms passed down to future generations. Your trust in our cookware is our highest priority, and we’re committed to producing cookware that is as safe as it is beautiful.

We work hard to stay ahead of evolving regulations to ensure every piece of Smithey cookware is responsibly crafted, with care for our customers, our team, and the environment. Our cast iron and carbon steel cookware, pre-seasoned with pure grapeseed oil, is completely free from PFOA and PTFE.

The California Safer Food Packaging and Cookware Act of 2021 (AB 1200) requires cookware manufacturers to disclose the presence of specific substances—called Candidate Chemicals—on the handles or food-contact surfaces of their products. In line with this law and our commitment to transparency, we’ve detailed all the materials used in our cookware, whether or not they appear on the Candidate Chemicals list.

AB 1200 is a “right to know” law, ensuring customers are informed if any amount of a Candidate Chemical has been intentionally added to cookware handles or surfaces. All Smithey products fully comply with FDA standards for food safety.

Below, you’ll find a detailed chart of materials used in our cookware. The primary composition of cast iron cookware is Iron. In the interest of full transparency, we have listed ingredients marked with an "*" that per our foundry may be present at some point in the casting process in trace amounts.
