Carbon Steel Farmhouse Skillet

A genuine “farmhouse” skillet, inspired by American blacksmith design of the 18th and 19th century, the new Smithey 12” carbon steel skillet is as much work of art as it is a cooking tool. We hand-forge a limited number of these skillets in partnership with renowned Charleston blacksmith Robert Thomas Iron Design.  Each piece is visually unique while sharing core design features such as a handle inspired by traditional fire tools and the signature Smithey 3-holed helper handle. With performance that rivals cast iron at a lighter weight, these skillets are designed to elevate your everyday cooking experience.

Functional and Beautiful Skillet

If you are looking for a great performing skillet that is also a piece of art, the Farmhouse Skillet is a wonderful choice. I love the appearance of the hammered sides and the handle is more comfortable than I expected. I’ve purchased a few similarly priced pieces in cast iron from other companies but none have come more beautifully seasoned in terms of performance or appearance. Unless I need to cook something that requires a tall sidewall, this is my go to pan and I leave it on my stove for display when not in use because it sparks joy whenever I look at it.

Absolutely love this farmhouse skillet! Amazing craftsmanship, heats very well, almost felt bad breaking it in with some simple potatoes. Could tell as soon as I picked it up that it will be used long after I'm done with it! 10/10

Great pan

I've been a collector of cast iron for years then I switched to carbon steel. I have many of the mass produced carbon steel pans from big manufacturers and several from artisans like Smithey Ironware. My favorites by far are the handmade pans. Not only are they beautiful, but boy can they cook. I use my Smithey on a daily basis. It cooks eggs like a dream. Clean up is a breeze. I'm sure it would have been fine from the get go, but I did season the pan with flax and coconut oils after I got it. My favorite feature of the pan is the handle. It has a good feel in the hand and isn't as long as some of the others, thereby cutting down on the heft of the pan. Ergonomically great, even for a petite woman such as myself. I only hope they create more pieces.

Great skillet!

At first I was a bit taken with the cost but upon receiving it I was totally impressed the the way it is hand made!! GREAT tool in the kitchen! It is definitely my go to pan!! Heat distribution very well, lot of body to the pan, no kid gloves on this guy!! I would highly recommend it!
