Unlike many non-stick pans, every piece of Smithey cast iron is completely free of PFOA, PFAS, and PTFE. Instead, we pre-season our cookware with pure grapeseed oil, building a naturally nonstick surface that only gets better with use.

We stand behind the quality of our cast iron and carbon steel cookware. If your cookware is defective, we’ll replace it. If your cookware fails you after honest and normal use, we’ll repair or replace it.

Does the 10" glass lid fit this skillet?

No, due to the curved interior of the No. 10 Chef skillet our 10" glass lid is not a custom fit. Technically yes it will function as a lid, but it is not a tight custom fit.

What oil do you use to pre-season?

We use 2-3 coats of pure grape seed oil to pre-season your Smithey with. Seasoning is applied by hand and there are no chemical coatings of any kind applied to your skillet.

What is the purpose of the three holes on the helper handle of the skillet?

The three holes are a unique identifier that allows a Smithey to stand in a crowd. Reach for it on the range!

chef skillet

It is of good quality , but if you are familiar with cast iron cookware I would say it's a new spin on an old but useful product. It is not going to replace a good quality non stick by any means. But if you know how to use cast iron you know the drill butter or cooking oil very time you use it or spend 10 minutes scrubbing the finish off and reseason for the next time. The new smooth finish does help a bit.

Good skillet, smooth finish

Good skillet, smooth finish. Seasoning leaves something to be desired from factory. Take seasoning slow, but it’s getting there. Excellent smooth finish.

Great skillet

Not your normal size and shape which is why I love it so much. The shape is like a sauté pan and will be perfect my peach cobbler or filets for two.
