Great gift!
Gifted several Smithey pans. I’m told they not only look great, but definitely live up to the description. Pricey but if they last a lifetime and beyond then they’re definitely worth it.
Due to the hand-forged nature of our carbon steel cookware and with each piece being slightly unique, we do not have a custom fitting lid for our Deep Farmhouse skillet.
We think that the handle of our Deep Farmhouse skillet is too handsome to cover up with a sleeve, so we do not have a custom fit sleeve for this piece. We recommend using our full-grain leather or suede potholder however.
With any piece of carbon steel cookware heat will eventually make its way to the handle. However, more often than not if making a quick stir-fry or searing a piece of protein the handle will not get hot.

I have a heavier Smithey skillet as well but I really like the Farmhouse skillet because it’s lighter and easier to handle, but still has all the same Smithey qualities as the heavy duty skillets.
I’ve only had it for about a week now, so I haven’t built up a seasoning on it. Thus far, I like it. I “inherited” a Teflon pan that I was looking to get rid of, and I wanted to have something that could be an heirloom one day. Right away, my father-in-law cooked tacos and used tomato sauce and stripped the factory seasoning off. Minor setback, but it is what it is.
A work of art that cooks with the beauty of cast iron performance. The pan was nonstick with a great coating from the start. It has been used to great effect on the stove and in the oven. Everyone that sees it go from kitchen to table and deliver the quality of food cast iron is known for wants to know about it. The visual impact adds to the experience. My other pans work buy lack the visual esthetic. The eye eats too.
This is easily my most beloved piece of cookware. It’s lighter than a cast iron, but still substantial and balanced on our range. It has great heat retention and after consistent use is already building a great seasoning and patina. Hats off to the folks who work hard to make these. We will take good care of it and use it as long as we live!
