We use 2-3 coats of pure grape seed oil to pre-season your Smithey with. Seasoning is applied by hand and there are no chemical coatings of any kind applied to your skillet.

I recently purchased the Smithey 12-inch cast iron skillet after falling in love with my 10-inch. The 10-inch cooks beautifully—perfect heat retention, even cooking, and just the right weight and balance. It quickly became my go-to pan, so I decided to invest in the 12-inch for larger meals. Like the 10-inch, the craftsmanship is outstanding. It sears perfectly, holds heat like a dream, and looks stunning on the stove. I truly appreciate the quality and care that goes into Smithey products—they’ve made me enjoy cooking even more.
This pan is beautiful and very functional. It retains heat very well, allowing for great searing. It is very non-stick, even while the seasoning is building, as it has a polished surface. We love this skillet!
I have used it 8-10 times since it arrived and I am quite happy with the results. It gets hot quickly and stays hot or I can vary the heat depending on what I am cooking. It cleans up very nicely and with just a light coating of oil is ready for the next meal.
The No. 12 Smithey Skillet is now my favorite cooking utensil. Even heat distribution and the smooth interior surface is nearly non stick and a breeze to clean.
