Unlike many non-stick pans, every piece of Smithey cast iron is completely free of PFOA, PFAS, and PTFE. Instead, we pre-season our cookware with pure grapeseed oil, building a naturally nonstick surface that only gets better with use.

Unlike rough cast iron, which allows food to get stuck in the crevices, polished cast iron like Smithey has a smooth surface that practically wipes clean. For those new to cast iron cooking; I did an additional two seasoning sessions (one in the oven and one on stove stop) prior to my first cook…and burnt the pi$$ out of the pan (which was burgers). Fortunately I had a fine chainmail scrubber which removed the gunk and I then re-seasoned the pan. Use the pan for things which need steady or constant movement for a while before you try anything which ‘sits’ as it cooks. With that, the pan is still a pleasure and fun to use. Recommended.
Also, for those not sure on size; this 10” is perfect for about a pound of ground beef/turkey/whatever and some veggies and extras mixed in but no more than that. Great for one person.

It took me a few times to understand how to cook with this 10 inch cast-iron skillet but once I understood how to use it it’s been wonderful, yes, I highly recommend it.
