I love cooking on my Smithey. It looks great. It won't stay pretty as you cook though and the factory season will definitely chip away. It's a great cast iron but it is hard to season and take a while

We use 2-3 coats of pure grape seed oil to pre-season your Smithey with. Seasoning is applied by hand and there are no chemical coatings of any kind applied to your skillet.

Okay, it is the heaviest skillet I have ever owned, but its inaugural dish was perfect. I seared a thick ribeye and finished it in the oven. The heat was perfectly distributed and the beef was amazing. The beautiful bronze-like polished surface is now silver and disfigured but completely smooth and ready for the next task.
