I was skeptical after purchasing this pan and awaiting delivery bc of some reviews I had read. The weight of this pan is significant enough to allow it to sit flat on the burner. One review said their pan was tilting. Maybe they had a different pan than this one I ordered, but it is well balanced and does not tilt even while empty.
I can buy half a dozen or more antique cast iron skillets for the price of this one, but I wanted a beautiful piece to pass onto to my daughter/grandchildren.
I have only owned this pan for a few weeks. The patina is darkening and within months I expect to have it fully transformed (as intended).
I’m not sure why the center of the pan has a slight curvature that allows oils/grease to flow to the outer perimeter of the pan rather than to stay with the food, but it’s not a deal breaker. I still give this pan a 5 star review.
If you’re not sure about the cost, let me say that the price is a luxury price. It’s like buying a Mercedes rather than a Toyota. Vintage cast iron pans are cheaper and just as good, they just don’t have the beauty of this hand made farmer skillet. That is the only difference. If money is no issue, then by all means buy this pan. I probably won’t buy another one unless it is a gift, but I won’t regret buying this one. If I had a 6 figure income, I’d probably buy more of the collection. But I also already own Warner and Griswold cast iron pans. So I have the best of all types. I even own some newer Lodge…
