The perfect size for pot roast. I love how smooth the inside is.
The Smithey Dutch oven is non-enameled and naturally seasoned with a pure grape-seed oil. While great for breads, soups, stews and more- boiling pasta or water is not the best use of your Smithey Dutch oven.
A well-seasoned Smithey does not fear any acidic dishes. Before diving into chili and tomato sauces however, we recommend establishing a more mature seasoning layer through baking or frying.
No, currently the 3.5QT lid only fits our 3.5QT Dutch oven.

I'd been wanting a slightly smaller Dutch Oven , mostly for soups and stews for myself and my husband, and when my sister-in-law recommended Smithey, I ordered the 3 1/2 quart one. We've only used it twice, once for a chicken cacciatore, and then for a lentil soup with homemade chicken brother and porchetta, but we already know it's going to be a favorite. Both recipes turned out very well.
After nearly many years of hard work, I finally retired my 3.5 quart French cast iron Dutch oven and replaced it with the 3.5 quart Smithey. I’m more than pleased with the results. While the old pot performed very well for many years, the Smithey outperformed it on the first try. I’ve also made soup in it, and it’s great. Well worth the investment.
I have previously bought nearly the entire line of carbon steel pieces, and I use them daily. Smithey pans are superb.
Purchased this pot for sourdough bread.
I own 2 other pans, and this one is just another to add to the collection. I just love them.
